Remembering a Friend and Volunteer

This month we said goodbye to a dear friend and volunteer, Jeannette (Jan) Karlbon. Jan was recently diagnosed with lung cancer which had metastasized to her brain and passed away on July 3, 2017.

Jan was diagnosed with COPD only a few years before moving to Arizona, and upon arrival, she reached out to the American Lung Association to learn more about the disease. Jan insisted on taking the COPD 101 Specialist course for healthcare practitioners and was instrumental in the initiation of two Better Breathers Clubs® in the Mesa area. She served as a spokesperson for the American Lung Association in Arizona for the past six years, helped launched My COPD Life, a worldwide COPD awareness campaign, in 2013 and served on the Chronic Lower Respiratory Disease (CLRD) Breathe Easy Arizona Executive Committee as a Patient Representative from 2015-2017.

Jan was the recipient of both local and national American Lung Association volunteer awards. Her most recent goal was to become more active in the American Lung Association Lung Force initiative to raise awareness about women and lung cancer.

We are so grateful for Jan's friendship and all that she has done to raise awareness about CLRD. Jan will never be forgotten.
